If Snape is secretly up to good things that need to be kept secret, why
would he risk giving that away with careless statements about his pride?
The same thing goes for those who think Snape was trying to teach Harry an
altruistic lesson as Harry was chasing him out of Hogwarts. Snape was
enjoying taunting Harry: Harry was powerless against him.

Harry can't be a squib. Squibs can't do magic. You either have it or you
don't. Also, the whole idea of the HP series is a to imagine a tortured boy
who finds out he's actually a powerful, famous wizard. After I read the
first book, I thought the next book would end with "...and then Harry woke
up. He wasn't a wizard after all," or some such crap. Fortunately, that
doesn't seem to be the case.
