I need to change my motherboard and am considering ASUS.

I need:

- x16 SLI (to use my 8800GT)
- on board RAID controller
- to use Intel E8400 CPU
- I assume an NFORCE4 chipset?
- 1394 and at least 6 USB2
- at least 5 SATA and 1 ATA
- HD sound chip
- 1333MHz FSB and with good overclocking capabiltiy

I have looked at the vast list of ASUS MB and the selection menus but found that it is difficult to find a MB with everthing I require when their is only one keyword allowed at a time even in advanced selection mode.

You could take a look at the EVGA 750i board (nForce 750i SLI FTW).
Reviews note there are documentation errors, such as mixing up
a USB and Firewire header, and in the quick start guide in the
box, giving wrong instructions for hooking up front panel audio.

This is their CPU compatibility list.

The board blows hot air, on the back of the primary video card slot.
You can stop that, to some extend, when you stick a SIL3132 based
SATA card in the PCI Express x1 slot next to it. You'll need the SIL3132,
so you can reach your target of 5 SATA. The 750i has only four SATA
ports, so will need a card added to make up the difference. But
because the board is cheaper than a 780 or 790, that shouldn't
hurt quite so much.

With the board layout, there is one PCI slot you can count on,
and you can use that for sound, if the onboard sound is not
good enough.

User manual (does not render properly on my version of Acrobat -
oh, well - missing font).

The board even has a Port 80 POST card, so you can watch the
progress of the BIOS during POST.
