PSU is certainly a common factor.

Although the only niggle I see see is the "double start" when I power on the PSU, the fans fire up for a second, then go off for a couple of seconds, then it comes back on and the drives spin-up and it posts and boots.

Once booted it's fine, runs memtest over a weekend without errors, or runs 4 instances of cpuburn-in while copying data from 2 disks in raid0 to 6 disks in raid5.

Maximum power drawn is 330W as drives spin-up, idle is 160W, cpu/drive stress tests take 230W, PSU is a 500W.

I'll certainly dig another PSU out and see if there is a difference.
