SoundMax Audio on ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe

I have just built an XP Pro box using the ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe with a 2.7
Ghz Dual Core processor. Everything went fine until I tried using the
audio. Everything I played skipped, whether it was web radio, DVD, or
video. I did all the usual things, latest drivers from Asus, hardware
acceleration to the minimum, sampling rate to the minimum. No improvement.
I searched the web and found many problems with SoundMax audio. It seems
many mobo and laptop manufacturers put this chicken *** chip in their
products and it's nothing but trouble. No workable solutions found. Has
anyone else gone through this? Crikey! This is a fresh install, 2.7
processor, 4 GB RAM, how could it be easier?
I don't expect much from my audio, all I have is a two speaker system. I
used my Sound Blaster 128 for nine years and it was all I needed. I would
put it back except I don't have an open slot.
I borrowed a Turtle Beach USB card the size of a flash drive and it plays
with no skips. I think I will get a SB PCI-E card as a permanent solution.
