The question isn't if your system memory will get used or addressed, as
it will...every byte, but how much extra work (and wasted time) must be
done if your application asks for more than 2G.
Try it yourself, run photoshop on a 32-bit 2G and 4G system and
manipulate large files with both a 128M video card and a 1G video card
(or 2 1G video cards). You will find that speeds are the same. The I/O
mapping doesn't impact available application memory space requiring
swapping and a loss in performance.
In your opinion, would I notice an improvement going from 2 GB to 4
for video editing on a 32-bit XP system?
Corsair doesn't seem to think so:
"Corsair's line of 4GB memory kits are designed for PCs featuring
64-bit operating systems. Please note: Installing 4GB onto PCs with
32-bit operating systems is not advised since 32-bit operating systems
do not support 4GB of system memory."
