Stray77:

That word "easy" is quite subjective. And it all depends on what is
'normal' for oneself. Your OC description proves my point.

Did you pull the covers off of the North and South bridges? That helps
allot in keeping them cooler. That's allot of heat coming off of the CPU,
RAM, North and South Bridges, GPU, and add-in boards. I bet it keeps you
warm in the winter being in the same room with that setup. Do you have
your
GPU vented out the back, or into the inside of the case? Mine throws it
out
the back. I wouldn't run that system of yours without more heat removal on
that CPU. Not a good idea.

I'm running my system in an Antec Sonata, super quiet system. Heat is a
big
destroyer of computer systems. Even the hard drives run hot now days. I
sure hope you are taking care of the internal temperature on your system.
Better have lots of air moving inside of your case.

William,

No I havent pulled the 'covers' off of the north or south bridge. I
haven't modified the board in any way. I have an ATI X1900XTX 512MB
GPU (one of the fastest at the time) and it vents heat out the back.
My case is an Antec P180 ->
http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=81800#
so yes its got great cooling, 3 x 120mm 3 speed fans (all on low
speed). I also have 4 x 250GB Seagate Barricuda ES SATA2 drives
running in a RAID 10 configuration plus an external 500GB Seagate
Barricuda NS SATA2 drive connected via eSATA (none of that usb or
firewire crap). Right now as I type this response, PC Probe II reports
CPU = 37C, MB = 45C, CPU FAN = 1814 RPM. The power supply is an Antec
NEO HE 550w. Also the system has been running 24/7 since I purchased
it over 2 yrs ago. I'm an avid gamer and have logged 1000's of hours
playing HL2 Team Fortress, Crysis, Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare,
Command & Conquer 3 Kane's Wrath, etc... at 1440x900 resolution, it
is only then that my cpu fan may increase in speed to about 2500rpm
(the point at which I can start hearing it). I'm wondering how many
years of use I need to get out this system without a hiccup before you
can concede the fact that MY decision to overclock MY machine was a
good idea and your choice to upgrade your CPU was in no way dumb but
could be considered unnecessary to someone like myself and others.

I don't know why my reader isn't indenting like it should. Sorry.

Stray77:

I like that power supply too. I have a Neohe 500wt running in my box.

I am not saying that OC'ing is bad. In fact, I have done quite a lot over
the years myself. The Q6600 I pulled out of my unit was OC'd as well. (
When I purchased my first IBM-XP computer, I pulled out the 8086 and
replaced it with a Japanese knock-off, [ I don't remember its name, Z-85 or
something, that was back in 1985,] guess I am getting old.)

It's the other way around, it's the OC'ers complaining when someone
purchases a certified faster CPU from Intel and installs it into their
computer instead of OC'ing that is the problem. It's a fact, certified
faster CUP's run cooler than OC'ed CPU's at the same speed. And now I have
a certified 3 gig processor that I can oc to 4 or 4.2 gig. (I don't think
the north/south bridge would allow it on this mobo though. )

Heat is a big problem. It is the destroyer of electronics. It will fry
every electrolytic capacitor you have in that box (including what is inside
of you dvd's, hd', and gpu's) if you are not careful with that internal
temperature. And if you turn on/off your computer, well, thermal expansion
and contraction will rip all those components right off of your pc boards to
boot.

I'm just saying, be nice to your computer and keep it cool.

William

PS I appreciate your comments. Meaningful and insightful. Refreshing.
