HI all,
Just put togther a new pc built on a P5K mb, 6600 quad core cpu. Got
everything in place, press the power button and the CPU fan starts,
but quickly shuts off -- nothing else happens. No HD whirl, nothing.
There is a green light on the motherboard when I plug it in though.
This also may help...I swapped out the 450w power supply in the case
(Antec Sonata II) for a new Silverstone 600w. When I disconnected
the old one, I noticed that a connector that ran from the power
supply to the mb..it's labeled "pwr_fan" does not have the same
connector built into the new power supply. This may be the problem
but I'm not sure what to do about it if the new power supply just
doesn't have that connector.
Thanks for any help.
Gary
All you need is the heatsink fan plugged into the correct header.
The pwr_fan is for those PSUs that have a connector so you can
monitor the PSU fan (don't know why anyone would want to, though).
The BIOS doesn't care if it's there, or not. Just the CPU fan
connector.
Do you have the 4x4 pin connector plugged into the 4 pin socket near
the CPU?
When it comes on momentarily and goes out, have you waited about
10-15 seconds for it to come back and boot? My P5B does this and it
seems common on Asus MBs. It comes on momentarily to check
settings, then shuts off. If all is OK, it will come back on in
about 10-15 seconds and boot from there.
Oop...I forgot the 4 pin connector:(
Thanks!
You're welcome. Don't worry: it's a common mistake (one I've made
myself). The CPU really appreciates the fresh voltage when it's plugged
in. ;-)
