I'm trying to set up RAID 1 on my box, but Windows is already installed
(for quite some time). I started with my IDE drive. I then added two 250
GB SATA WD drives, after I configured them in the BIOS and the RAID BIOS
(mirrored), the array was healthy and it showed up as a drive on
Windows. I used Acronis to copy my IDE drive to the array, I
disconnected the IDE drive and the array became the boot device and life
was good - for about two weeks. Then one or both disks started clicking.

I rebooted and it worked for about twenty minutes before clicking set in
again. I disconnected one of the disks, disabled RAID, and booted off
the IDE drive again to transfer some of the files from the SATA drive
from the two weeks of using only the array. After about twenty minutes,
that SATA drive would start clicking too. I have tried moving a single
SATA drive to different SATA ports (I haven't tried every one, but most
of them) and it still does it's clicking routine. That is where I am now.

Drive clicking means that the drive is failing or has a power problem.

Thanks, Stephen. That's interesting. The drives aren't that old and I
find it odd that they both would fail at the same time. Maybe it could
be a problem with my power supply? Any thoughts?

Thanks again,

Jim

I had a power supply fail on a Abit VP6, where the MB would not see
any of the drives other than the cdrw.

On a another pc, the p/s didn't have enough amps for just one more
hard drive. They would randomly spin up/down or not be recognized.

Then there is the loose connection at the power plug, those molex
connectors just don't grab tightly after a several remove/connect
cycles.
