V,
If in fact, the problem is PNP0103, then the culprit is Microsoft not
ASUS! I just checked my systems registry here and PNP0103 does show up
as the HPET function. Things indicate that the driver is MACHINE.INF
which can be found in the Windows\Inf directory. If I'm reading that
file correctly, it should put the device in a NO_DRIVER status. Could
be you can clear the problem by doing a manual update of the driver on
the Properties Page for the device. Did you resolve the HD Light
strobing issue?

Hi Rob. All I can say is that Everest identifies it as ACPI \ PNP0103.
I will spend more time on it later on.
The HDD LED is flashing regularly just like a security strobe light and if
it was an amber LED I could rent it out to the council to put as a warning
light in front of a big pothole or something. This is the first SATA drive
for me but I assumed it would work no different to an IDE drive in as much
as if nothing is happening then the LED is off. I haven't had time to try to
find an answer to this annoying problem yet.
V,
I found that the strobing was being caused, not by the SATA HD but rather by
the OS polling my SATA DVD burner. I guess it was making sure I hadn't
slipped a disk in there secretly. I turned off autoplay on the drive, using
the setting in Tweak UI, one of the Power Toys offered my Microsoft. That
stopped it. I'd rather launch a program when needed, than look at that
blasted light all day! Tweak UI has a few other goodies too!

Hi Rob. I can turn that off in the burners properties if I remember right.
That will be a blessing. Thanks.
I might be fiddling too much but I have now lost something in the front case
USB ports. It will load a flash drive ok but not an external usb laptop
drive. I tried the other set of usb pins on the motherboard and they do the
same thing. Sort of like there wasn't enough power getting to them.
Time to reformat and go again I reckon.
