Challenges for a non-techie getting started with the P5W DH Deluxe

Hi All,

In trying to get this board up and running as it should, I have immediately
run into some challenges, which as I am a non-techie, and I have never
worked with a board this modern or sophisticated, appear considerable.

I've built the board into its box, fitted an Intel duo core E-6750 2.66 Ghz
processor and 2 gigabytes of Crucial Tracer PC-2 8500 RAM, hooked a couple
of Seagate 250 G SATA-2 hard drives to the ASUS EZ SATA connectors
(intending to set up a safe RAID-1 in the first instance), and connected an
IDE DVD/RW drive to the Intel pri_ide connector.

Now, when I fire it up, the optical drive is recognised at POST (as primary
master), and I can boot off it, notably with an Windows XP installation CD,
but that's about as far as I can get for the moment.

Neither of the hard drives is recognised (so how could I install the OS?
partition the drives etc ?).

Bizarrely, the BIOS claims to recognise an external SATA drive, however,
though none is physically present. It says it is there as "fourth master".

But the BIOS (no 2004, dated 03/07/07) also reports:
"Intel CPU uCode loading error". Disabling "Microcode Updation" under
"Advanced - CPU configuration" does not correct this. What is this error and
how to correct it?

Also, the BIOS sees the RAM only as PC-5300 (and not 8500 as stated by
supplier). Is that normal?

Another source of confusion for me is which ribbon cable to use for the
optical drive with the Intel IDE controller. The 80-pin one marked for HDD
or the 40-pin one marked for CD-ROM ? The manual seems to contradict these
markings by speaking of matching the colour-coding, which is only on the HDD
IDE cable....

Sorry, there's a lot there, and I'm sure to be back with more, but I need
someone to hold my hand right now...

Thanks in advance all advice,

Leachim Sredna
