Re: psu requirements-think i found it

so here is a 939 board with both AGP and PCIe.........I still have this board in storage and used it for about 1 year when I upgraded and did not have a PCIe video card nor could afford one at that point in time...

I see you are in the UK and I have no idea if you are even going to find this board.

:I dont understand this....would it not be advisable to buy an AM2 socket
: board with the CPU of your choice and then match a new PSU to it??
: You would have a lot more choices and the purchase of a new PSU would
allow
: you to upgrade in the future..with the right PSU.
: It is always better to get more power than needed at the present time
: ....never know what you might decide to add in the future.
: Socket 939 boards are almost obsolete and ones with VIA chipsets were

: If you have your heart set on a 939 I would be more apt to purchase
: something like this ...rather than a VIA chipset mobo

i originally only intended to upgrade the ram to two gigs. at the same time
donate old matched pair to sisters machine to speed that up. That plan has
failed. There are issues with a7vxxxxboard and sticks larger than 512mb.
the 1gb i ordered is now in sisters machine. It is running faster now. i
left the 256mb module in hers and the clock speed has gone from 934 to
1.7ghz. actually a sompron 3200.

now time to upgrade then. am2 board means bigger psu, throw away agp card,
faster ram. total cost £250 upwards. the original board paul recommended
was agp, could manage on old psu and a 939 dual core with full 2meg cache.
for £75. would also take my old ram. That would tide me over while psus
gradually ditch molex for sata style power connectors. No doubt quad cores
will be around then and core duos much more affordable. currently have 2800
barton so 5600 core duo would fly.

Now it seems the available revision of the board i've chosen may only be pci
e after all. This makes its cost effectiveness more questionable.
