Below is my initial question/issue followed by Paul's response. TIA for any help.

In response to Paul's message:

I did run Everest and it did find my controller:
SCSI and RAID controllers:
JMicron JMB36X Controller 1.16.1.0

I am really at a loss regards what to do next.

Oh, almost forgot. There are manuals on the motherboard CD. Two manuals
for Jmicron. Have a look for them ("explore" the CD). Those kind of manuals
are not typically listed on the motherboard download page, so I cannot look
at them myself.

Have fun,
Paul

Paul,

I spoke to ASUS tech support and the message was there aren't any BIOS
settings to tweak and if the external drive is working thru the USB PORT (AND IT IS!), then the
esata port is defective and get an RMA and new board.

A pain for sure but hopefully that will solve the mysterious drive that couldn't!

Thanks for your help in trying to solve this problem.

Mark
