I just built a quad core P5K-C with 2 GB ram, ATI x1650 Pro, and
migrated my old IDE hard drives and DVD burners, using an Adaptec IDE
133 PCI card since the the IDE port on the MB is too far away to get a
cable to.
I don't have any trouble with performance, just tweaking the case to
improve heat removal.
Are you running XP , Linux, or Vista ?
Most high end games don't seem to know what to do with more than one
CPU core.

Q6600
Asus P5N-E SLI
OCZ Dual PC6400 mem (2x1Gig)
GT8500GT Video (512 mem)
NEC DVD/RW
80Gig Maxtor IDE
Sound Blaster Audigy2 Card (Realtek disabled in BIOS)
550Watt PSU
Raid disabled
SATA support disabled
Everything set to default but it runs like a lame dog. The AMD 3700 system
it is to
replace runs rings round it in terms of speed, loading etc.
Control panel reports all is well with the hardware, All four cores show and
are running @ 2.4 Ghz
I have flashed to the latest BIOS (0703) collected/installed all the latest
drivers
So far the only programs are Win XP Pro SP2 plus all updates. AVG Virus
scanner, SpyBot S&D and MS Office 2003.
Running AVG and Spybot at the same time brings it to a virtual standstill
with Taskmon showing two cores at 100%, two at 0%
I can understand the hard drive being a bottleneck but only when the system
is paging.
I have tried disabling speedstep but it seems to make no discernable
difference.
Heat is not a problem (CPU 42Deg C) I have no games installed at the moment
Thanks
Running WinXP SP2, equipped with multiple processors, power management, decreased performance
