If you give Asus Tech Support the details, perhaps three months from
now, there will be a BIOS fix. More likely, some user will come up
with a workaround first :-) I'm a little surprised at the forum responses,
that there isn't more discriminating feedback on that board.

Thanks very much once again for your comments, Paul. I will experiment
with the problem to be sure I can accurately describe it to Asus Tech
Support and I'll contact them. This afternoon I discovered the computer hangs when booting even when set to USB "full speed." I swear it worked last night, but I can't repeat my success this afternoon.

In answer to your question -- I am connecting the hub to one of the
external USB ports on the back of the computer.

The problem could turn out to be moot, though, for me at least. As I was thinking through all this today it occurred to me that I really would like to have USB ports and a headphone connection on the front of my computer case.

But the solution to that is not simply to buy a new case. I'm pretty limited in the cases I can use. See, my computer cabinet requires I use a horizontal-layout case. The furniture piece is Ethan Allen and it fits my decor, but I sure wish it would accommodate a tower case without setting it right up in front of my eyes next to my monitor. A horizontal computer case fits nicely down below on a sliding shelf, but a vertical case, which I tried for awhile, is noisy and looks out of place and, well, I hated it sitting up there and I wanted a horizontal case. Here, I'll show you. Forgive the clutter, and yes, I need to dust:

If I remove the sliding shelf I could put a tower down below, but I like having the ability to roll the computer out on ball bearing slides rather than drag it out. I like my setup. My horizontal Enlight case seems to be unique in providing two external (or internal) 3.5" bays, two additional internal 3.5" bays, and three external (or internal) 5.25" bays. That's a lot of bays for a horizontal case.

As I said, I was thinking things through this afternoon and it occurred to me that I now have a spare 5.25" bay since I removed one of my optical drives to use in the computer I've built from old parts. I had planned to put another 500 gigabyte drive in the hole. But wouldn't it be nice if somebody made a face plate for an Enlight EN-7200AX that contained USB ports? Does anybody make such a thing? So I went to Newegg, and sunnavagun ... and now I have ordered this:

This thing will do everything I want without requiring a bunch of wires attached to a hub attached to a port on the back of my computer. There's my compact flash port and my USB ports and my headphone port and a bunch of other stuff. Someone else in this thread reports he has had no trouble attaching a powered USB hub to a P5K. So I'm hopeful the new 5.25" unit will meet my needs. We'll see.

Thanks again!
