I have been using that processor in the LGA775 package on a P5P800 for
around a year with no problems. I only needed a 400 Watt power supply
with my setup so I doubt that is the problem. The only other thing to
check is the heat sink mounting. This processor runs fairly hot and if
the heat sink is not properly mounted or the fan not circulating enough
air it will shut down immediately.
Exactly. Without a heat sink installed the system did shut down after a few
seconds. I wonder why sometimes (mostly immediately after removing the
Northwood-cpu) the system starts properly. I don't think that the psu is too
weak. Also I don't really think that the Prescott-cpu is damaged. So - I
guess my old motherboard cannot deliver constantly the required voltage. Too
bad I don't have another motherboard to test the cpu...
