you may have tried tis or may not...there is a setting in the BIOS ( IIRC) that has a setting for 8mhz keyboards...these were the really old style IBM rock solid keyboards and people loved them..
try turning that on ...since 8Mhz run slower it might recognize the keyboard on boot...
my guess is it is worth a try..
as for "USB device boot."...I wonder if he means usb keyboard.. if I remember correctly the a7m266 has a PCI USB card ( depending on rev level) so that setting doesn't exist in that BIOS
your other option if I understand the problem correctly is
the new setup is usb and the old was ps/2 . on the first page
of the bios is "halt on errors" switch to none(ignor errors, ssomething like that . then it will ignor that you have no keyboard ..boot XP, and XP will find the USB keyboard/mouse.hid the keyboard for the next time you need to go into bios...
a7m266-d was my first Dual board,. I had some 1700 T-breds that I Overclocked to 2400 and MP'd them. a $200 Mobo, $80 in cpus ( $40 each) and some cheap memory that system rocked..At the time it was an unbelievable system for under $500.. a manufacture would have charge $2k+ for
and I am paraphrasing someone here , once you get the creamy smoothness of dual cpu...you never want to go back
luckily the dual cores are out.. and they have most of the creamy smoothness. I look at Newegg in amazement a Dual core 3600 AMD is going for less than a hundred with mobo.( not an asus though). you can slap together a cheap powerful system for under $200 and on top say money on your electric bill..and still upgrade to a AMD 6000 in the future is you need to. Of course this is the clearance sale before the quad cores come.

This system is aging, but is still great until I feel the "need" to.
upgrade to Vista/x64. My immediate problem is a new Logitech wireless
keyboard/mouse combination. When I boot the system, I get a "Keyboard
Not Present" error, and pressing F1 does not work. The only way to
get the system going is to re-install the old keyboard.
My old setup was Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse with a desktop mouse
cradle/wireless received. The cradle had both a USB and a mouse PS/2
connector. With this setup, I connected the mouse PS/2 connector to
the motherboard mouse PS/2 connector. I connected the USB cable via
an adapter to the keyboard PS/2 connector.
Unfortunately the mouse quit working and Logitech sent me this new
Cordless Desktop MX3200 Laser system. (For a while now, I was using
an old, crappy, corded mouse, but I like the new Logitech mouse a lot
more.)
So after I unplugged the old Logitech setup and set up the new one,
both mouse and keyboard worked fine under Windows XP. I discovered
this problem only when I needed to reboot the system.
I called Logitech tech support, which I find to be generally helpful.
The support guy was surprised, but told me to set up my BIOS to allow
"USB device boot." Well, there is no such option in the A7M bios, and
I'm using version 10 or something like that. And he didn't know
about any converter that would allow me to use the USB cable with a
dual PS/2 "splitter."
So then I figured I needed only the keyboard but not the mouse during
BIOS operations. I plugged the wireless receiver for the new setup
(which looks like a flash drive) into the adapter which plugs into the
keyboard PS/2 connector. No dice. The BIOS does not recognize the
keyboard, even though it did recognize the keyboard with the old
setup.
So what can I do, besides use the new wireless mouse with the old
wireless keyboard? or should I go back to Logitech and ask them to
exchange all this for a different new product?
Thanks,
