Thanks... I actually did it ...that resistor was about an 1/8 inch long
and even thinner
getting it out was easy...moving it sucked
I used some tape to hold it down on one side and tack soldered
then tack solder the other side... getting it into position took
about an hour ( don't drink coffee before attempting)
also don't sneeze otherwise you will never find the resistor again !! LOL
but at that point I had nothing to loose. the system had 1 cpu pegged
a dual p3-600 was not great ...but a p3-600 was worse
did an excellent job with mpstat in Solaris
went from 80-90 percent system time ( even when doing nothing ) on one cpu to 10-20 on each
Also I notice the system time on the other cpu is lower
now that it is getting some help !!!!
thanks for the pointer to the German site
this is not for the faint of heart...
but again if you have nothing to loose like me ... it is worth it

got this board free, and I want to install Solaris (working on certification).
I have high # of interrupts on one CPU. this is supposed to be fixable by moving a resistor, but every link I find is down
anyone got one that is still valid or a nice guide
I could avoid it in windows by changing the cpu type ,
but not in solaris
