Sorry, I realize now that I need the driver from ASUS - it is the M2N-
E (nforce 570 Ultra - NOT sli) mobo. I was using drivers I downloaded
from Nvidia...but those are just the chipset, not the motherboard.
Probably the ASUS drivers are going to do the job (i hope). In any
case, i need to get the disk or download them from ASUS (for some
reason the ASUS download for this isn't working right now). Thanks.

I recently purch'd a 2nd hand PC w/nForce 570 Ultra (for AMD)
motherboard. Everything worked and sounded great but at a certain
point found out the OS (XP Pro) turned out to be illegit (surprise) so
i did a new install (reformat) with a copy of XP Home that i own.
Everything looks okay, but i cannot get the sound to work. Sound is
onboard with this motherboard. I've tried just about everything i can
think of including, uninstalling and reinstalling the mobo driver and
making sure the BIOS setting for sound is correct (AUTO). I even
tried installing the realtek driver separately - nothing! I'm pullin'
my hair out over here. Please tell me someone else has run into this
problem and can offer some advice! THANKS!
Did you really have a realtek soundcard. and not the soundmax.
To bad you dont tell what your mainboard type is.
look on the mainboard for your board model number.
go to asus and download the correct drivers for your mainboard.
