They must be - if the CMOS memory is cleared and a 'load
bios defaults' is done, the text "To be filled in by O.E.M."
has to come from somewhere..

I don't think that the DMI strings are stored in the BIOS.

Hello,
I'm trying to modify the Serial Number in the System - BIOS section of
the DMI. But when I try to modify the serial number, it just comes
back saying "DMI function not support;" "Updating DMI have some
problem." It'd be just nice to get rid of the "To Be filled by
O.E.M." value.
So I'm wondering if anyone knows of any DMI config utilities out there
for older ASUS motherboards. I currently use the Award DMI
Configuration Utility v2.43 which works for newer motherboards
(P4P2EX), but not older ones (like the P4B, P4B533 or P4PE). I've
found older versions of that software (v. 2.1) but that just produces
the same error.
Thoughts anyone?
I suppose you could use a hex editor on the BIOS file to find
and replace the relavant string before flashing it?
As long as you are careful and make sure the checksum of
the edited BIOS file is correct, I don't see why this wouldn't
work.
HTH,
.
