Socket 939 motherboards and CPU's are still actively on the market. Any reputable company such as Asus would be wise not to abandon their previous and potential customers so quickly.

Wrong answer! 939 motherboards and CPU's are EOL (End Of Line) and have been for over a year now. There are both boards and CPU's on the market still but that does not mean they are current technology. They are old stock and it's doubtfull that there would be any more developement of drivers for them.
