I did have problems with system freezing and I sent the Liteon DVD
drive back to Newegg already.

But they'll be replacing it.
not upgrading it.

I'm looking at SATA DVD-R's but cannot determine if my P5WD2-E
Premium- (XPproSP2) can support an internal SATA DVR.
I have two SATA HDDs already.

So does anyone know if the conflict exists and secondly, which DVD-R
will work properly and where doe it connect on the mobo?

TIA

But your board has an ICH7R. If you use the ribbon cable that connects
to the Intel Southbridge ICH7R (PRI_IDE), those are generally pretty good.

And I see in the Asus forum, you basically already got the same advice.
Using an 80 wire cable, allows all the high speed DMA modes, and
that is handy when mixing an IDE HDD, and the optical.

Plextor used to keep a compatibility page for their SATA burners. They
were the first company to ship SATA optical, and there was quite a
mixed bag of compatibility info there. I would sooner take a chance
on an Intel Southbridge IDE ribbon cable interface, if one was
available, than try SATA. But as SATA is now entering the mainstream,
I guess sooner or later, all those problems with disappear, as the
old silicon and drivers, disappear.
