Re: New P5W DH Deluxe Problems, help!

Thanks a ton Guy!

The PATA is just a data drive but I am sure I can work my way around this...

I was more confused by which ports to use and you got me there!

Thanks again!

Can someone please give instructions for setting up 4 SATA
devices(2 HDs in a RAID0 config with 1 DVD Reader and 1 DVD
Writer) and one PATA HD?

The PATA is just going to be by itself, the only raid is the SATA
HDs.

I run an all-SATA P5W so maybe I can help. Not sure if running one
PATA device might change anything.

First, get the latest drivers from Intel for the F6 setup disk you will
need to add RAID drivers to Windows. See
http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20070319004301717&SLanguage=en-
us&page=1&board_id=1&model=P5W%20DH%20Deluxe for pointers to all
current drivers. Drivers on the Asus CD that comes with the P5W are
reportedly not good.

You will need to have a diskette drive if installing Windows XP.
(Vista may have other options for loading drivers.)

Are you booting from the PATA device? These steps should work if you
do. Not sure what to do if you want to boot from RAID0 as I have not
done that. I am pretty sure you would need a Windes setup disk that
included SP2 to install to the RAID0 array. Any version will do if you
are installing to another drive.

Remove all jumpers from EZ-Backup jumpers. Be sure to set "EZ Backup
jumpers changed" in BIOS after you do that. Set IDE Configuration to
RAID. Attach your RAID0 drives to SATA1 and SATA3 (red and black
adjacent ports). Attach a DVD to SATA4 and another to EZ-RAID1 (which
becomes SATA2 with the jumpers off).

You could also ignore the EZ-RAID connectors and attach one of your DVD
drives to the JMicron SATA port.

Now, when you boot, the Intel RAID BIOS will briefly show a list of
drives. Press Ctrl-I during that display and a menu appears. Select
the options to create a RAID0 array and select your two drives. Or, if
you are not installing to the RAID0 array, you can postpone this step
until after installation is complete.

When setup starts, press F6 when the message says so across the bottom
to tell Windows you have a diskette containing additional drivers.
Windows will later prompt you, perhaps twice, to insert the diskette.
After inserting the diskette, be sure to scroll down the list of
drivers (there are 8 or so on the diskette) to select the one you want,
which is RAID for the ICH7R, and not one of the other drivers.

Install Windows. Add any additional Windows components. Upgrade to
SP2 if required. Get Windows patches up to date.

Install Marvell ethernet drivers.

Now, make sure you have the latest DirectX. If not, upgrade from
Microsoft.

Next, install the Intel inf chipset update (from list on Asus forum
mentioned above).

Install Intel Matrix Storage Manager (from list again).

Now you should be ready to go. You'll have to go into Disk Management
in the usual way to activate the RAID0 drive and partition and format
it.
