Reading some of the ASUS FAQs it looks like the "EZ RAID" is slow anyway...

Yes do that. The ICH7R ports have faster burst speed times. I have checked that for myself. The EZ_RAID ports run through port 2, and port 2 can be reclaimed by doing as you say, as well as turning the option ROM for EZ_RAID off in the BIOS (or soemthing, I forget - check the Asus forums)
Just one question, I have two SATA DVD drivers (one reader and one burner, would putting them on the Intel 3 and 4 ports cause any issues?
