Thanks for the advice Robert,
After a lot of going back and forth, I finally went with a P5W64 pro. I
suspect that PCI-X is obsolete (at least they seem to be harder and harder
to find) and PCI-E seems to be the future so having 4 such slots should work
pretty well.
Also for backup, I have a local WD Media Center 500GB and a 2.1 TB Nas unit
on my home Gigabit network (in addition to the two portable drives rotating
between the house and the bank) for backups, I am not too worried about
loosing data.

I know it's not on your list, but I've been running the predecessor a
P5WDG2WS for almost a year now with a D960 and 4GB.
It has been rock solid as a video editing workstation. Short of a
dedicated PCIX RAID, the i975x RAID10 has worked seemlessly. The system
drivers are stable, no hiccups in the slightest after days of ontime for
rendering.
I also built a P5WD2E Premium for gaming. It was solid with the exception
of some BIOS weirdness. A hardy overclocker. (I did the THG D805 o'c to
3.8GHz with little effort). I throttled it back to 3.6GHz to save power
and reduce the cooker.
If I could have waited, I would have for the Pro version of the P5WDG2WS
for the Core2Duo support.
This late in the stage of CPU development and aging of the motherboards, I
think I'd go for the P5W64 WS Professional for the Quad-Core support
though.
If you're going to spend the big money on a workstation motherboard, for
workstation use, don't skimp on the fault recovery/prevention. Get the
drives for a RAID10. Better yet, find yourself a PCIX RAID10 card.
And remember, backup backup backup.8)

I am going through the which freakin' motherboard should I use phase of
building a new system.
Contenders: P5W64 WS Professions
P5WDG2 WS Professional
P5WD2-E Premium.
The P5W64: Looks like a great board but I don't need the extra PCI-E
slots (Heck to begin with I am just planning on one) also I have heard it
doesn't work well with WD Raptor drives (which I would like to use in a
Raid-1 config).
The P5WDG2: Again looks like a winner but I don't have any PCI-X boards
and am not planning on getting any. Also Heard that getting a good sized
heat sync can be a problem.
The P5WD2-E also looks like a nice board but doesn't have the heat syncs
of the other boards, also doesn't have as many USB ports on the board (I
need at least 4).
Anyone have some advice?
Thanks!
