I have an Asus P4C800E - Deluxe motherboard and have been using a Pentium
4 2.6C processor in it. It has a 478 slot. I am wanting to upgrade to a
faster CPU.

I shopped around and found a good deal on a Pentium 4 3.0E Prescott chip
which was a slot 478. I went to the Asus compatibility chart to see if
my motherboard would support this chip, and this particular chip wasn't
listed. Asus listed the 3.0 but not the 3.0E chip, although the 2.8E and
the 3.2E were listed as compatible with my board. Can anyone tell me if
this 3.0E Prescott CPU would work in my motherboard? Thanks for your
advice.

here is the compatible chip list that I found on the Asus site
http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P4C800-E%20Deluxe
The P4 3.0E is on the list. Just for some reason it's at the very bottom.
You just need to make sure you are using bios v.1017 or higher.

Here is the chip that I was interested in upgrading to:
Intel Pentium 4 3.0E Prescott 3.0GHz Socket 478 RoHS Version Processor
Model NE80546PG0801M
