P5NSLI all usb ports died at once

P5NSLI all usb motherboard ports dead - noticed when I went to check email
yesterday morning and found mouse dead

looks like the +5 went away overnight but I've not actually measured it yet
the good news, if any, is that this is a hard failure - nothing intermittent
going on

nothing I plug in like external floppy or usb memory stick will light up or
be detected
had printer, scanner, and mouse on usb - has worked fine for a month (brand
new system)

otherwise the system has been perfect (500w ps, 2cd's, 2 ide drives, 2 sata
drives, Haupauge video card, nvidia pci-e vid card)

a few days ago, for several days, out of the blue I would get some warnings
from XP that a usb device is not recognised (no hot plugging going on, in
fact nothing plugged or unplugged for several weeks, and no power cycles
either) - but a short time later it would apparently find it because no usb
peripheral has quit working until now

what I've tried - all ports dead still
1 - unplugged front panel and back panel usb cables, still the motherboard
mounted usb's connectors still dead
2 - double checked the bios - usb is on, all three options
3 - device manager hardware - I did uncheck "allow xp to turn off usb power
to save power" (it was checked)
4 - power cycled the machine several times
5 - asus monitor prog shows 5v at 4.89
6 - uninstalled and reinstalled usb items in dev manager and again I did
uncheck "allow xp to turn off usb power to save power"

I figure there is either a 5v fuse, regulator or trace that quit. I think
there are two
Could there be a jumper that has worked loose ? I have None of the jumpers
set to allow the "boot on usb wake-up" features

What's the next step ?
