Allright, I'm back home from work, I have done the following:
Try stick 1 in slots 1, 2, 3, 4
Try stick 2 in slots 1, 2, 3, 4
Try stick 1 and 2 in slots 1 and 3
Try stick 1 and 2 in slots 2 and 4
Try stick 2 and 1 in slots 1 and 3
Try stick 2 and 1 in slots 2 and 4
All of the above with both the video card installed and not installed, plus
the video card on its own and the RAM on its own in the above
configurations. I think that covers all the possible combinations;
absolutely no change in the beep patterns.
Tried to clear the CMOS again after the bad flash and the supposedly good
restore of the BIOS, no change in the pattern. I found a PS2 keyboard in my
closet, and thankfully the PS2 port on this laptop works, so typing is loads
easier now.
I am doing the following to clear the CMOS:
1. Turn off PSU switch
2. Remove power cord
3. Remove MB battery
4. Jumper pins
5. Waiting 10 to 15 seconds
6. Move jumper to default position
7. Replace MB battery (polarity is correct)
8. Replace power cord
9. Turn on PSU switch
10. Wait 15 to 20 seconds
11. Power on system. Then she beeps.
Once my brother gets home, I'm going to ask him to use a stick of DDR2 from
his machine, if not permanent, I can at least try the flash again.

Ok, I will pull out the memory to compare the beeps.it
It's what I remember from my classes and experience, not what I pulled off
the internet. :)
I've known memory beeps to be 3 short ones, but this is on the Award BIOS,
I've not had too many dealings with PhoenixBIOS, it's probably different.
I've been building computers fom scratch since I was 8, and have been at
for 16 years now, thank you very much!set
When I couldn't find the 2.1V setting in the BIOS to adjust the memory
voltage, I did download the 0302 BIOS from ASUS' website, attempted to
flash, and got a failure during the very beginning of it. It said I had
some kind of read-only mode? I don't think the download got messed up inthat's
transmission.
After I rebooted the system, it came back on, BiosBlock (or similiar name)
kicked on, I was asked to insert my M2N-E disc, it restored the original
BIOS without write issues, that's when this beeping problem started. I
think in my sleep deprived/rage induced ranting last night I forgot that
little detail, but I'll check the memory, worth a look for sure, once
back to starting OK, I'll re-try the flash to 0302.you

One long beep, two short beeps is memory, not video (contrary to what
notfind searching the Internet). Either the memory is not there or it's
memorycompatible (or the settings in the BIOS are wrong). Try taking the
firstout, you should get the same beep code.
I know, because I had the same problem with my M2N-SLI Deluxe when I
myput it together. My problem was that I needed a new BIOS to work with
toDDR2-800 RAM (Crucial). I used a cheap stick of Kingston DDR2-533 RAM
takesflash a new BIOS. Then no problems with the Crucial RAM.
Crucial told me the memory should work. ASUS tech support told me about
the beep code. Do you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard? The
BIOS for mine allows setting memory voltages up to somewhere around 2.4V
or maybe higher (don't remember the exact number). The Crucial RAM
set2.2V, but I have it set to AUTO and don't know what it actually has it
Youto.
I have also read multiple places that OCZ memory does not work very well
in the ASUS AM2 motherboards. Apparently all AM2 motherboards are very
picky about memory. But it looks like you got it work, at least
initially. Another good system test (CPU, RAM, motherboard) is to use
Prime95. This will catch stability problems where Memtest86 will not.
thecan run one on each core.
With an ASUS RMA request, you can also do their advance exchange, where
they ship a new board to you first. You have 14 days upon receipt of
andnew board to return the old board. The also charge your credit card,
wentthen credit it back when they receive the old board (assuming you get it
to them within 14 days). I did this procedure during my troubles after
the first RMA with newegg.com did not help. My problems was the PSU
boardbad (though it worked in another computer), so I just returned their
instance.back to them after trying a different PSU and getting the 2nd board
working.
One last thing, it Windows is set to reboot when a problem (i.e. BSOD)
occurs, you may not see the BSOD because it's only there for an
accessible.I don't know where the setting for this is, but it's somewhere
I

Seems promising; OCZ site says 2.1V, BIOS only goes up to 1.9v for DRAM
voltage adjustment. I'll leave that at Auto for now.
Allright, I'm back, set it, reboot
...
Well, now I'm getting some beeps. I rebooted, one long beep, two short
beeps (video, right?). I've reseated everything and cleared CMOS, no
dice.
I sent off a request for an RMA to Asus. Do you think if they do
repair/replace it that I'm going to get this same stuff next time? Did
toget a dud?
I can't take this anymore. I do tech support for my job, it's lunacy
youcome home and have to do the same thing.
I can't play games, I can't enjoy this system.
This all really freaking sucks.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I believe I'm beyond help now and the
board
is really broken

Just check net for correct voltage your DDR2 memory should run a first
before adjusting.

Hi,
Getting random reboots on my M2N-E
XP Pro SP2 (32 bit version)
Athlon X2 3800+
Asus M2N-E flashed to latest BIOS
2GB OCZ2P8002GK, 2x 1GB sticks (Timings in BIOS aren't what is
overfor
memory, is that a problem?)
Bios is 5-5-5-12, listed as 4-5-4-15
ATI Radeon X1800GTO2
SIIG SC-PR4B12 (IDE RAID card)
2x WDC SATA DRIVES
NEC 16X DVD-ROM drive
Using onboard ethernet, but not sound
For cooling, I've got 2x 80mm on the front fans, these blow right
forhard
drives, 2x80mm for the back, videocard exhausts outside
Zalman CNPS 9500 AM2 HSF, AS5
PC Power & Cooling 510W PSU
So far I have tested the memory with memtestx86, this ran for 72~ish
hours
without a single failure, stressed out both cores on the processor
idle24
hours, used the PC Probe utility to validate temps, went from 30C
itup
thisto
36C full load even after all that time, but strangely enough during
intensiveperiod, I didn't reboot.nothing
No BSOD, just poof, reboots. I can't distinguish a pattern either,
shows up in the event viewer. I thought at first maybe during
disk activity while I was doing some massive database updates, but
USBhappens even when the comptuter is sitting completely idle.
A motherboard testing utility that I use locks up when testing the
couldcontroller.
Name is PC Check http://www.eurosoft-uk.com/pc_check.htm
Any other diagnostic ideas/tools you all can suggest?
I do mean truly random on the reboots, it could be a few hours,
stupidbe
a
few days between restarts
I've been exceedingly happy with it so far, except for this one
enough.Microsoftlittle thing. For a time I did have the XP64 trial I got from
on
here, it didn't seem to happen in this system at all strangely
too,
I'm getting ready to load up Linux to see if it occurs in this OS
goodI'm
pretty sure it's a hardware thing if that's the case.
Very disappointed in Asus this time around, my P4P800 SE provided a
many years of constant service before it died, this was to be its
replacement, but it seems I'm not doing so hot with my latest build.
RMA do you think?
Thanks in advance
.
