Re: P2B's - problems - deteriorating ?

Is there any known degradation of the P2B's over time ? I am running
three of these with the 1.4g slot-1 upgrades from Stratton. Two of the
systems have started to exhibit odd problems in the last two months.
Perhaps someone can suggest other tests to nail down these problems ?

One has started to hang hard for no apparent reason. Restart requires
a shut off with the master power switch. I tried cleaning the memory
edge connectors but it still hangs unpredictably.

The other started with trouble a few weeks later with hanging a few
times. Now it has advanced to rebooting spontaneously. One day it just
kept rebooting itself as it got into Windows. I took it all apart,
cleaned all edge connectors including the CPU slot, and put it back
together but it didn't help. It will boot but reboots immediately when
you enter the Windows password.

This two machines have different uptimes (the first one having a lot
more), memory of different types purchased far apart, and CPU/upgrades
purchased six months apart.

I do have some spare mobos and I will switch one in today to the
second machine, upgrade the BIOS for the 1.4, and try it. Any other
thoughts?

Thanks,

I would suspect the hard drives. Do some routine maintenance on
then, such as defragging. Run diagnostic tests from the HD maker.
Download Everest and check the S.M.A.R.T. report.
