I don't know whether it works the same way in the linux, but i know
some of the p2b series are badlisted on window xp

And XP makes every P2B series become Standard PC(NOT Software shut
down, no standby)
Maybe you should google "ACPI and HAL" in your OS and see what it comes
up.

hello.

I have upgrade from a p2bs to a p2bds. in the process I also switch the
case as it was more modern.

I reinstalled the OS (fedora core 4). it all work ok be fore I made the
upgrade. the only change is the mobo and case.

the thing is now if I ask for a shutdown or restart it fails to
poweroff by its self I have to hit the switch my self.

Is it a jumper setup or bios thing I need to change.

I have the latest bios that you can get from ASUS website.

Yes, indeed the P2B-S and P2B-DS are blacklisted due to ACPI bugs. I'm
not sure if the bugs have been corrected in newer bios, you can try
acpi=force as a boot option (I've tried that once on a P2B-S with newest
bios and it worked, but then again I didn't use the built-in scsi
controller where the acpi errors presumably are related to). Though it
looks like in your case the p2b-s actually isn't blacklisted, maybe it
was removed from the list some time ago because in reality only the
p2b-ds was really affected.

I installed XP on a P2B-S 1.03 when XP was first released. I had to
copy the CD to the disk to install but afterwards everything worked
perfectly with no problems. This included upgrading the CPU to 850 MHz
using a Powerleap adapter.

how can the powerleap addapter can make a p2b-ds 1.03 work at 850 if
the max you can only set the fsb and clock to max of 600mhz?
