In addition i was originally due to be sent the 930 (3Ghz) but a
problem with a supplier meant i was sent the 945 free of extra charge.
Also i was told this was the Presler chip, not sure what that means???

Just to clarify,
In task manager performance i am seeing 2 instances of the cpu and alsp
in device manager. Is there a way of testing it to make sure for
deffinate?
To me it was running hot, getting readings of around 60 inside the case
before i added more fans now i get around a constant 39 but this is my
first personal built pc so not really sure. Ive used Dell machines with
p4's prior and they kept quite cool but that could be the fact that
they use there own heat sink and fan and not the stock Pentium one. Im
new to all this building of pc's, i just bought a motherboard and
thought any socket 775 cpu would work with it but then i started
reading that my cpu didnt actually work with my MB. Keeps my room nice
and warm any way.
I cant really give you advice on whether its running hot in comparison
as i dont really do this type of thing often.
Think i will monitor it for a few weeks, and maybe buy a better heat
sink and fan in the future.
Thanks for your help guys,
Much appreciated

Hi, thanks for the response.
The processor arrived so i thought i would give it a try. Got to the
windows installation screen copied the files then just as it was about
to install it shut down. Of course my first thoughts where yes there
not compatible. So i gave it 3 more goes and each time it did the
same. Then i noticed the temperature was going way above 50. So i added
a few more fans and stuff (Ended up with 2 exhaust and 5 fans)
Windows installed fine (And very fast) Checked the system with dxdiag
and all looked fine. Installed C&C generals and played on it for about
5 hours without a problem.
So hopefully i now have a fully working system with no problems. So im
not sure whether its Asus that have just failed to put the 9xx chip on
the compatibility list or my pc is doing something really strange.
Maybe you should contact Asus Support and ask them if the
information on the CPUsupport page is accurate for your
motherboard ?
Abit NI8 SLI uses the same chipset, and only lists 830 and 840.
http://www.abit.com.tw/test_report/NI8%20SLI/
MSI P4N SLI uses the same chipset, and basically lists the 8xx series.
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_cpu_support_detail.php?UID=674&NAME=MS-7160v2.0&kind=1
Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI(Rev 1.1) supports them all
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/CPUSupport_List.aspx?ClassValue=Motherboard&ProductID=2173&ProductName=GA-8N-SLI
and Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI(Rev 1.0) supports the 8xx series only
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/CPUSupport_Model.aspx?ProductID=1949
The implication could be that there are different revisions
of the chipset, and only Gigabyte documented it ? Or Gigabyte
made some change to their revision 1.1 motherboard, to support
9xx Cedar Mills processors.

Is the pentium d 945 compatible with the P5ND2 Motherboard. I really
need to clear this up. Ive seen many pc's available with these two
piece's of kit together yet on the asus website the 945 processor is
not listed on the compatible processor list?
Thanks for your help
Jason
I don't see the 9xx series listed at all. On the 8xx series, the
820 would not run in dual core mode.

This article also hints that the answer is "No".
"Question
Does P5ND2-SLI series motherboard support
Intel 965XE 955XE 950 940 930 920 CPU ?
Answer
No. Because the NVIDIA nForce4 SLI chipset on the motherboard
cannot support 65nm Technology CPU due to chipset limitation."
