Athlon XP vs Sempron

Hi. whats the fastest cpu I can put in my Asus a7n8x Deluxe im running a
Athlon xp 3000 333 fsb I know I could go upto the athlon 3200 400fsb but i
noticed I can also use sempron cpu's as well so my question is would the
fastest compatable sempron be faster then my current Athlon. I thought the
sempron was a cut down version so to speak of the athlon?
