I recently got a P5P800 SE and a Pentium D 805 in hope of being able to
overclock some. When I use the "auto" system in CMOS to OC by 10% to 2.93 GHz,
everything is fine. The CPU temp hardly goes up at all. But when I try to OC
by 20% to 3.2, WinXP won't load. The error message is
"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM"
Of course that's not a file at all, but a folder. When I go back into CMOS and
revert to 10% OCing, XP starts with no problem.
The computer runs smoothly at 3.2 GHz. The temp goes up a little, but the CPU
still idles at about 39C. Is there anything I can do to get XP to cooperate?
Thanks for any help.

Understand what over-clocking entails. Just what is the quality
of the other components being used in the system, such as the RAM?
Are its values within the design specifications of the motherboard
or are they better? What about the hard drive, i.e., 7,200 RPM SATA?
Succinctly, it isn't the operating system that controls the degree
of over-clocking but the hardware in which the OS needs to work.
