Hi. whats the fastest cpu I can put in my Asus a7n8x Deluxe im running a
Athlon xp 3000 333 fsb I know I could go upto the athlon 3200 400fsb but i
noticed I can also use sempron cpu's as well so my question is would the
fastest compatable sempron be faster then my current Athlon. I thought the
sempron was a cut down version so to speak of the athlon?
Thanks for your help

The Sempron rating system compares them to Celeron processors.
The AthlonXP rating system compares them to P4 processors.
If someone offered you a Sempron 3300+, a rough guess would be
equivalent to AthlonXP 2900+ or so.
Your best option for the board would be AthlonXP 3200+ with FSB400,
as it allows better bandwidth communication with the memory subsystem.
Of course, one question would be, why bother with S462, when
there is blowout pricing on S939. You could get an A8V family
motherboard (AGP, DDR memory) and move your current hardware over
to the new motherboard. Or the Asrock 939dual-SATA2 board, which
has both an AGP slot and a PCI Express video slot, takes DDR
memory and S939 processor. Also, Gigabyte made some Nforce3
boards (AGP) with S939 socket on them, and while the Nforce3
doesn't like some of the 6800 family cards, it would be
another alternative for someone looking for an upgrade
path with (AGP,DDR).
