What is your current board?
Asus A8N-SLI. Swapping it out so I can do crossfire.
How do you plan to cope with AMD's plan to discontinue 939 pin CPU and
move
to DDR2?
As far as I know, they are not eliminating support for pin 939, just
no longer producing boards that only support it. The new standard is
backwards compatible. Please correct me if I'm wrong. As for DDR2,
once the kinks are all worked out and the revisions of the new boards
settle down I'll upgrade once again. I upgrade about once a year but
try to wait for the "newer" stuff to mature so I can pick the best one
to fit my needs.
Socket 939 board, you'll be limited to whatever Socket 939 CPU's are
currently available, and will be further limited in the future as dealer
stocks dwindle.
AFAIK, AMD has already stopped production of Socket 939 CPU's, or will do so
shortly. Future faster CPU's will not come in Socket 939.
If you move to a Socket AM2 motherboard, your current PCI-e video card
should be usable, but you'll need DDR2 memory (which, you seem to
understand), *and* a new Socket AM2 CPU. Your Socket 939 CPU will not
fit/work in an AM2 board.
