Guess I didn't clearly express myself. There is no mistake in what I
meant, except as how you corrected me on the mistake that 939 pin CPUs
will work in the 940 socket of the upcoming AM2 boards. I thought I
had read that they were still compatible but I guess I remembered
incorrectly. I'm well aware that buying a 939pin board now will give
me limited use for the future. No problem, as I stated, I upgrade
about once a year anyway and just pass the old components down to my
other computers here.
AFAIK, AMD has already stopped production of Socket 939 CPU's, or will do so
shortly. Future faster CPU's will not come in Socket 939.

If you move to a Socket AM2 motherboard, your current PCI-e video card
should be usable, but you'll need DDR2 memory (which, you seem to
understand), *and* a new Socket AM2 CPU. Your Socket 939 CPU will not
fit/work in an AM2 board.
I had thought I'd only need newer memory but I was wrong... Thanks for
the correction!
