Update ESCD successfully

Hi there,
I have Asus P4B533 with updated BIOS to 1015.

Sometimes i see that message at boot sequence and i use Windows 2000 +
SP4

"Update ESCD successfully".

Then my Microsoft USB optical mouse cannot be recognized under just for
once, and i re-connected the mouse while i'm at Windows Desktop, it is
recognized now and after that event, i don't get that message. "update
ESCD successfully"

I have 2 questions under lights of that experience:

1-Does "update escd successfully" message appear when there is a REALLY
hardware configuration change? Or can it apper although there is no
hardware configuration change such as USB connections?

2-I hardly remember i haven't changed my USB port of my mouse but after
2 days, i got "update ESCD successfully" and the mouse wasn't
recognized by Windows until i re-connect it at desktop screen.

Please clarify.
