Re: A8N-SLI Premium PSU and EZ_PLUG Questions

Hi guys,
Thank you for the comprehensive responses.

PSU Configuration

Having reviewed all of the responses I have decided to buy a new ATX
V2.0 Power Supply Unit as I have spent a lot of new 'best of breed'
components for this new PC and feel that it would be silly to
compromise on the PSU for the sake of a few euros. I will sell the old
PSU on ebay for what it is worth.

Unfortunately the responses from Barry and Paul seem to suggest 2
different approaches for my configuration (which only has one graphics
card)?

Barry recommends the following:
1) The main 24 pin power connector CONNECTED
2) The ATX12V connector CONNECTED
3) The EZ_PLUG disconnected
Quote "I've seen advice not to use both of them, only use one or the
other (use the ATX12V if you have it). "

Paul recommends the following:
1) The main 24 pin power connector CONNECTED
2) The ATX12V connector CONNECTED
3) The EZ_PLUG CONNECTED
Paul has stated that "the processor will not run, without its 2x2
(ATX12V) connector in use)" And also "With one video card, I don't
see a reason to use more than just the 20 pin, but if you have an extra
disk drive power cable, might as well connect it."

So I will try Barry's configuration first, and then Paul's if this
does not work, but I would appreciate clarification on whether to
connect just 24 pin and ATX12V, or 24 pin, ATX and EZ_PLUG now everyone
has had chance to read all responses?

Disk Configuration

In terms of disk configuration I plan to have a single disk for
OS/book, which I will connect to the Nvidia controller, and configure
the remaining 3 disks as a RAID5 array on the Silicon Image controller
(the only controller that supports RAID5 (as the Nvidia does not).

Wish me luck, I am buying the new PSU this lunchtime (UK) and will
configure up the PC tonight.

Thank you once again for your informative and comprehensive responses
to my question.

Cheers,

David
