Will my P5WD2 Premium 955 chipset Motherboard work with the upcoming DUO

Would the next generation of chip yield significant improvements?

You have to start reading some of the hardware review sites
and private forums. People have been working with and overclocking
some Conroe processors for a while now.
This thread, is about suspected or known boards suitable for
running Conroe dual core chips.

For example, Intel had a 975 motherboard called the "BadAxe".
It has been out for quite a while, but not all revisions of
BadAxe can run the Conroe. A hardware change was made to
that board a while back (maybe Mar.2006?), and any motherboard
revision greater than 304, contains the necessary hardware
changes. The changes needed have something to do with Vcore,
and presumably changing Vcore on the fly. Since neither the
new Vcore spec, nor a spec for Conroe were on the Intel website
the last I checked, it is hard to say how extensive these
changes are.
The best thing to do, is keep checking the CPUsupport web page,
and see if any boards get added.
There will be some motherboards, that will use even older
chipsets, that will be able to run Conroe. But not all the
hardware features will be supported. It is my own suspicion,
that not all power saving features will be available on these
cheap motherboards, but since the power requirement for
Conroe is reduced compared to say 9xx processors, this might
not completely negate the cheap motherboards as a choice.
There is a chart here, comparing some of the high end processors
with the just-released stuff.

Besides, you'll have plenty of time to drool over Conroe. While
some of the big retailers had web pages up for Conroe, now
they've all disappeared. I think Intel is just teasing their
fans...

Availability may not be the same around the globe, so some
countries may find them more available than others.
