My computer (ASUS K8N, Athlon64 3000+, 1GB Crucial) locked up for no
apparent reason today. On the next boot, the fans spun but I got no
beeps and no video (no POST or any screen).
I removed the memory to test the system's capacity to beep, and it
didn't beep when powered on. The system has always given me the normal
boot-up single beep, so I know the speaker works.
I pulled the processor, and everything looked okay.
Really stuck on my next move. What would you check?
Thanks

Possible faults are processor, motherboard, power_supply.
Removing the memory was a good test to try. I would also
remove the video card as well, as either or both missing
should give beeps.
In terms of probabilities, the power supply is the next
thing to swap. If you have a multimeter, you can probe
the backside of the nylon shell on the power connector,
to see if all rails are present on the old supply. If
no multimeter is available, then just swap in a supply
to test.
If still no joy, now you need to test the processor or
motherboard. A motherboard failure would be more likely
than a processor, so I would test the processor if you
could find another motherboard. If the processor tests
good, then the K8N motherboard should be returned under
warranty.
