I'm having a very strange problem with my sound. I plugged in my 2
channel speakers system into the green port and all I get is sound
from the right speaker.
So I downloaded the latest drivers from Realtek 5.10.0.6120 and then I
get sound out of both speakers but it is not stereo. If I use the
balance slider I get sound from one end and no sound from the other
end of the slider.
I tried my headphones and the same thing happens.
If I plug in my speakers or the headphone to the front panel they both
work just like there supposed to. I can't figure this out. My bios is
ver. 501.
Does anyone have an answer or any suggestions for me?

In terms of finding an explanation, I cannot find a way of
explaining all the symptoms. They don't all seem to add
up, as the balance slider observation is suggestive of a
problem inside the ALC850 audio chip, while your other
symptoms could be a computer case audio problem.
What I would suggest to you, is disconnect the computer
case front audio from the FP_AUDIO header. Put the two
jumpers back on the FP_AUDIO header, as per the diagram
in the manual. Then repeat your green Line_out speaker
test again. See if the output is stereo or not, and the
balance slider is working.
It could be that there is a defect in your computer
case audio wiring, and connecting the computer
case wiring to the FP_AUDIO header, is affecting
the results. If the computer case wiring is "Intel
compatible", and there are four wires going to the
two line_out and bline_out pints on the FP_AUDIO header,
then it might be possible to get the left and right
channels shorted together, on the output side of the
mute contacts on the front audio speaker jack.
But all of that does not explain what is happening with
your balance slider.
In any case, one purpose of removing the computer case
front audio wiring, is to see if there is a defect in
the motherboard. By testing with the two factory shipped
jumpers in place on the FP_AUDIO header, and then testing
the green connector for proper operation, we are looking
to see if the audio functions correctly with just the
motherboard in the picture. If it operates OK, then I'd
say that something is wrong with the computer case wiring.
If it was my computer case, I would pull out the
front panel wiring and circuit card, and have a look
at the soldering job done on the audio connectors.
It is possible they used the cheapest manufacturing
method, which is hand assembly. There could very
well be a solder blob on the computer case audio
assembly.
But your testing of the motherboard audio, by putting
the two jumpers back, will help you decide whether this
is a motherboard problem, or something else.
Report back your test results :-)
