Just asking because you could have ram or setup issues. Lots of
motherboards got sent back because they wouldn't boot some ram
timings. CG stepping introduced 2T timing to some athlon64 cpu's and
that helped a lot with booting up the oddball ram sticks.
Probably not your problem, but I'd run Everest or something similar
and look at all the ram timings etc.
Let me clarify that a bit. Original athlon64 2800 cpu's did not
have the 2T command rate function built in (slows down complete
memory cycle somewhat). They only ran at 1T command rate (faster).
They were fussy about what ram they worked with esp if you had two
sticks of ram on a socket 754 system. Later cpu steppings
introduced the 2T command rate function which allowed motherboards
to boot up with more types of memory. Your Sempron would have 2T.
The Athlon64 2800 may not depending on it's stepping. Even if it
ran once, as components age, it might get funky and stop booting up.
Replacing it with the Sempron would "solve" the funky problem
because the sempron would be able to boot at 2T command rate
compatible with more (funky) ram.
At least, that's my understanding of that socket 754 technology.
