How did you verify that the cpu is the problem ?

I take a Sempron2800 out of a working computer and put it in the old fellows
computer and his computer boots up ok. I put the Athlon64 into the Sempron
computer and it doesn't boot. I return the Sempron to it's computer and that
boots ok. I return the Athlon64 to the old fellows computer and it still
does not boot with the Athlon64 in it. What am I missing?

Just asking because you could have ram or setup issues. Lots of
motherboards got sent back because they wouldn't boot some ram
timings. CG stepping introduced 2T timing to some athlon64 cpu's and
that helped a lot with booting up the oddball ram sticks.

Probably not your problem, but I'd run Everest or something similar
and look at all the ram timings etc.

PS that thing with the heater is strange.
