People here and elsewhere say the icon means the SATA drives are
hot-swapable. What you described doesn't sound like hot-swapping to me.
Also, why would anyone want or need to use the process you just described?
To prevent deletion of data on that drive in error? To prevent the spread
of a virus to that drive?
I don't use that process, so I'm not familiar with it. But I just don't
understand how removing a drive from the list helps anything at all. For
example, if I'm not using my DVD drive or floppy, I don't feel the need to
remove it from the list of drives. Why is it important to do so in the
case of SATAs?
I'm just asking, not challenging what you said.
Floppy and optical drives don't spin when they are idle, unlike hard drives.
