That's the problem with indoor plumbing.... wouldn't have happened with
a little shack out back! ;-)
All of the ICs including the CPU and most of the other electronic
components are encapsulated in ceramic, phenolic, epoxy or other plastic
medium.
Water is a mild acid and non DI water contains varying amounts of
minerals which can cause corrosion in switches and contacts.
