I had Abit NF7 before I switched over to Asus A8V with 3700+. Now I
can only switch on the PC by pressing the Power on switch at the

does not control the start up sequence.

Previously I could turn on the power at the mains and then press any
key to start up the PC. Can I somehow get this feature back? I am
using the Cool&Quite feature BTW.

Did the Abit have a feature in the BIOS to do that ?
(Maybe "USB Resume from S3/S4" ?)

The Asus A8V has a wake on keyboard feature, but I think it is
PS/2.

The problem with PS/2, is the chip with the PS/2 interface,
is not powered when the computer is in G3 "mechanical OFF".
I cannot see a way for this to work with PS/2, on a normal
motherboard.

AFAIK, the Southbridge is the only chip powered by the CMOS
battery, when the computer is unplugged or switched off at
the back. The Southbridge has USB ports on it. That means,
if you can find a way to achieve a "wake on USB event"
by means of a Windows setting, there is a chance that the
state information can be saved in the Southbridge, resulting
in your ability to do what you want.

If you have a PS/2 keyboard and mouse, I don't see how this
can work. If you have a USB keyboard and mouse, then technically
I can see a way it _could_ work. Since other tnan Intel chipsets,
little information is available from the other companies, I
don't know of an easy way to look for evidence you can do this.
All you can do, is try to set up the machine so that it can
wake up from standby using USB, and then maybe it will also
be able to do that from power off.
