Back when I first built my computer with my old Asus A7V333, I had an
OCZ PC-3000 256MB stick. I later replaced it and just had a 512MB Kingston
PC-3000 stick. I then put the OCZ in my mom's old computer. It's working
fine in there. I added 256MB of PC-2100 RAM to my computer to go with my
Kingston 512MB stick (now totaling 756MB). Now I later pulled the 256MB OCZ
back out and swapped the PC-2100 stick I put in my computer with my original
OCZ alongside with my Kingston. (I wanted PC-3000 on both sticks) Then, my
computer would restart itself on occasion. Why would that RAM work in my
computer originally, but when I went to put it back in my computer two years
later, it caused my computer to restart itself? It works fine in my mom's
old computer still. It makes no sense when both CPUs are very similar and
have the same FSB. (An Athlon XP 1800+ in my mom's old computer and an
Athlon XP 2400+ in mine.) I went back to using the PC-2100 stick in my
computer, and everything was fine again. Does it have something to do with
timings?
I now have a new motherboard to get me by for two years with a new
processor. (Asus K8N motherboard with a Sempron 2800+) That Sempron
overclocks a long ways, (it's at 2GHz and stable right now) with the FSB
OC'd to 250. Even with my PC-2100 RAM, it can do it, but if I want to
increase performance, would it be a waste of my time to try the OCZ again in
my computer? Do you think that it will cause my computer to restart again,
even with my new motherboard? Thanks. (If you were able to follow this.)
