Re: Asus P5LD2 Deluxe Raid0 question

Ok,

here's how I succeeded:

I disabled the Silicon sata port in the BIOS (not neccessary i believe,
but still), i set the Intel ICH7R to RAID. Then I connected 1 disk to
the sata0 port and the two other disks to the sata2 and sata3 ports. I
connected a DVD burner and a DVD player to the ITE 8211F e-ide ports.
Then I installed XP and used the F6 option to install additional
drivers
(ITE 8211F drivers and Intel ICH7R RAID drivers) and that did the
trick.

You also have to tho use the driver cd from Asus to install some
drivers in XP, such as the Realtek Audio driver (be sure to install the
Windows XP High Defination driver update first).

Kind regards,

Mario

Hi,

I recently bought a P5LD2 Deluxe mainboard and want to install 3 250GB
S-ATA Harddisks in the following configuaration:

1 x 250GB (OS)
2 x 250GB in a RAID0 set

How should I attach the disks?

I attached 1 disk to the SIlicon 3132 S_ATA connector, and the other
two disks to the Intel ICH7R black connectors (S-ATA 3-4), but Windows
XP wants to install the system partion to one of the disks I want to
use in a RAID set.

Will the following work?

Attach the three drives on the Intel ICH7R connectors:

1 disk (OS) on S-ATA 1
2 disk, to be used as a RAID0 set, on S-ATA 3-4

Set the BIOS to RAID0 for the ICH7R.

Any other sugestions / remarks?

Kind regards,

Mario

Connect just the single (OS) disk to the SIL3132. During Windows
install, use the F6 key to install a driver for the SIL3132. (The
Asus disk may have a Makedisk program, that will prepare a blank
floppy with the necessary files.) Windows may prompt you twice for
drivers, which should come from the floppy.

Once you have Windows installed, you can connect your two other
disks, and set up the BIOS for the RAID on ICH7R. Make sure the
boot order in the BIOS has been set, so that it is still selecting
the disk on the SIL3132 as the boot disk. The boot order can change
any time storage devices are added or removed from the motherboard,
so frequent checking of the boot order is a good idea. You should be
able to install Intel drivers for the RAID0 array, once you are in
Windows (since they are a data-only array).

The purpose of connecting only the OS disk, during OS install,
is so there is no chance of Windows installing anything on the
RAID array. If you don't get the F6 driver install done correctly,
you'll know right away, as you won't be able to finish the install.
So work with the single disk, until the Windows install is finished.
