Running a P4C800 and upgrading to 4gb ram from 2gb.
I used Kingston valueram in 2 sets of matched 1gb cards.
After install I see only 3072MB of ram in bios display.
The Asus manual mentiones that when all sockets hold 1gb cards the
system may only detect 3+ GB but then goes on to say nearly 4GB.
What I see is missing 1 entire GB I see 3072MB in the bios.
Can someone verify if this is normal and what the manual means or what.
Checking with Belarc advisor workup, there is 4 cards found of 1gb
each.
How can I verify what I'm actually getting here.
You could test with memtest86+ from www.memtest.org.
Memtest usually reports some vital statistics on the test screen.
And you can also read docs like this one.
http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/4GB_Rev1.pdf
While that document is for a PCI Express chipset, an AGP desktop
chipset like the 875P has PCI and AGP aperture address
space reservations at the top of memory as well, so it is
the same issue, just with different sized allocations.
PCI Express SLI systems seem to have the largest reserved
allocation, and users of SLI systems, or people who use two
PCI Express video cards to drive multiple monitors, see less
than 3GB from their 4GB memory purchase. The 875P should
do better than that, and turning down the AGP aperature
a bit, might make a difference.
Here is one Linux community user's experience with the topic.

Report back what you find.
