I have practically the same hardware configuration as you,
except my P4C800-E Deluxe currently is using a 9800Pro. And
I don't see stalling in the stuff I've tried (if I keep the
game detail settings low enough). If you can find a freely
downloadable benchmark or demo that demonstrates your
problem, perhaps it would be easier to see what affects the
behavior. As far as I know, the CSS test is only available
inside the game.

Thanx Paul, you've pointed out a few things I could try. But I think,
after reading your explanations, the Source updates have had a
negative effect on certain configurations. I get no errors running
Prime in default or burn mode (3hrs+). Memetest86 runs overnight with
no errors. 3DMark2K5 stays pretty consistant in 3d tests, minimal
score varition...but still some variation. In PCMark 2K4, Graffix Mark
scores have varied as much as 1000 points! On average, it's less than
200. The kicker is the CSS VST at 73-140 FPS...really hit and miss.

As for the BIOS, the values seen in the BIOS setup screens of
the 1014 BIOS, do not match what is seen in CPUZ. I have not
experimented with later BIOS, as this is not a big deal for
me. As long as CPUZ tells me my CAS2 memory is cranked, I
don't care what the BIOS thinks :-)

Bios is on "Auto / SPD" so I can't see the readings, but should it not
at least set the dimm's SPD default value ? If it doesn't, why ? The
Intel board see's and sets CAS 2...

For graphics tests, I use the demo loop of 3DMark2001SE
running overnight as a test. If the computer is still sane
the next morning, chances are the AGP port and the video
card are OK.

Haven't tried that one...

If you pass all that with flying colors, it is time to
try different driver versions. Perhaps some recent software
"improvement" to your system, is shooting you in the foot.

Ya, the Source updates from Dec / Jan...I think I may also try to
backstep one "Gart" version...I have tried Catalyst drivers 5.7 to
current.

P.S. Do you have a PS/2 keyboard and mouse to test with ?
Try your system with no USB devices involved.

Tried that to...tests did not indicate USB devices where an issue on
game performance. Same with any apps loaded at startup, like AVG or
sound etc...
