Paul,
Just wanted to let you know that I got my upgraded system up and
running and the P4P800-SE is great (w/ 2 gigs RAM). Even my most
graphics intense games are now stutter free. I'm running at 533mhz
FSB due to my processor. Now I can look forward to upgrading my
processor to 800mhz and maybe look for some SATA drives to run in
RAID. Your help is appreciated.

I am looking to upgrade my MB and memory, but keep all of my other
components as is if possible. The reason for doing this is to
increase the amount of memory.
I use this computer for gaming mostly.
My current board has all four RIMMs full and I have a total of 1gig of
PC1066. I want to keep this config and put an old Intel 2.4 processor
on it for another system.
I really don't want to clear 2 RIMMS to gain half a gig of memory.
It's been awhile since I built this system, but it seems like the
PC1066 is rather expensive. Is this just my imagination?
My wish list for the new motherboard includes that it would use lesser
expensive memory with a max of at least 2 gigs.
My current system:
Giga-Byte GA-8IHXP
Pentium4-3.06-478 socket
RAID0 (uses onboard RAID)
ATI Radeon X800 Pro - AGP
Audigy2
What I want to see in a "new" board:
Pentium4 - 478 socket
Onboard RAID
AGP slot
4+ PCI slots
USB2.0
and memory capabilities listed above
Is there any such animal out there?
Go here, select "Intel", then set the socket to S478. There
are 59 motherboard entries still left for S478. Some of the
entries are for new boards, while many will be for refurbs.

The most comprehensive list of Asus motherboards, is in
this table. The boards with 865PE or 875P would meet your
requirements. There are also some dual channel boards with
SIS chipsets on them. In any case, you should be able to
find something you can use, in the Newegg list.

The 865PE/875P boards are: AGP, 4xDDR, PCI slots, USB2 ports.
Look for ICH5R, for Southbridge RAID. Some boards also include
a separate RAID controller sitting on the PCI bus.

Thanks again for your help. After an exhaustive search I finally
ordered the Asus P4P800 SE
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1696717&sku=A455-1045
and a 2048mb Ultra Merory DDR400 kit from TigerDirect.com. I also
ordered a Promise PCI RAID controller for PATA RAID until I can afford
to upgrade my hardrives later if necessary. This board had SATA RAID.
This is my first Asus...wish me luck.
